We are all complicit…

Most of us are vaguely aware, somewhere at the back of our minds, that all is not well with the world. It’s not just climate change, though that, if drastic steps are not taken ugently, will be a catastrophe in the near future, but it’s also the systematic military onslaught on civilians in many parts of the world.

In his post on the D Day commemorations John Morris quoted the veteran who said, “We took part in it so that it never happens again”. But of course it is happening again. And again. And again.

And it happens because we—you and I—allow it to.

For example, our goverment authorises the sale of bombs and missiles to the Saudi regime, which uses them on civilians—on schools, on hospitals, on funerals.

British workers make the weapons. British workers train Saudis to use them. British Workers maintain them. Bitish profiteers grow fat on the vast financial returns. Without British involvement the Saudis couldn’t do it.

And what do we, the great British public, do about it? Nothing. It’s not that we don’t care, it’s that we don’t care enough.

We are all complicit.
