The Peace Party – Non-Violence
Justice, Enviroment

As ever, The Peace Party says, “No to War – Yes to Peace”

At the European Parliamentary Elections in 2009, The Peace Party leaflet said on its cover, “We say No to War – Yes to Peace”

It went on to add that “By voting Peace Party, you vote FOR

 Love, support, nourishment and protection for all life
 Caring for this and future generations
 Upholding the supreme worth of every being
 Equality
 A sense of fairness
 Awareness of the needs of others
 Trust and respect for others
 Tolerance of others and their opinions
 Humility
 Co-operation – working together
 Unselfishness
 Justice”

The leaflet explained, “These are the Values of the Peace Party and its supporters”.

The inside of the leaflet then gave a series of points from its manifesto, among which were those as important to the Party now as they were 17 years ago:

1. The Peace Party values and respects all life: people are to be trained in techniques of non-violence so that conflicts can be resolved without resorting to the immorality and inhumanity of war.

2. The European Union was born out of a burning desire for peace. The Peace Party stands 100% for peace. Military expenditure in the Union must reach zero as soon as possible.

3. The UK is to transform into a neutral, non-military state within a neutral, NATO-free EU.

4. Emergency and disaster task units are to replace the military as soon as possible.

5. Encourage co-operative enterprises where all have a voice in running them and where control is totally in the hands of those working in them. They will replace the dictatorship of corporate business.

6. Zero carbon emissions by 2050. Achieve 50% cuts by 2020 using all available technologies.

7. Protect the poorest countries by opening the UK market and increasing support up to 0.7% of the wealth of each country.

8. Cut the debts of the poorer countries of the world to zero.

9. Abolish prescription charges.

10. Abolish fees in education for the over-18s.

11. Free, professional and compassionate personal and nursing care within the community.

12. Full employment. Provision of high quality training and apprenticeships. Guaranteed minimum income for all. A maximum income to be set with all earnings above that level used for the most needy.

13. Reform the UN to represent all peoples, rather than the governments, of the world.

Footnote to Point 1: “War is destructive to humanity and a morally unacceptable way to resolve conflict. Killing people must never play a part in government policy. It is time to break the cycle of wars and to move beyond the use of physical and other more subtle forms of violence.”

“The Peace Party is a secular political group. It welcomes people of all religions and of none.”
