No Requirement for Country to repay Currency issued

Peace Party National Organiser wrote to his local newspaper in Surrey having read a letter the previous week from a resident concerned about the country needing to repay money he thought had been borrowed to cover the costs created by the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK.
John wrote:
“I view the country’s finances in a rather different way from your correspondent, Hassan B. Akberali (Surrey Advertiser, 21st August, 2020).”
“The UK is a currency-issuing authority.  It has no need to borrow money from anyone or any organisation to finance the services the electorate has asked it to provide.  It has no need for an income, as has yours and my household, in order to spend.”
“That spending guarantees job security.  Full employment sets the upper limit to spending – and prevents inflation.”
“Of course, we all pay tax; that ensures that the government issues money for us to pay it.”
“Mr Akberali – and all of us – have no need to worry about the country and its so-called “debt” or “austerity” or the “paying back” of money.”
John signed himself as “Peace Party Candidate for Guildford at the 2019 General Election”.
