The Peace Party has observed one or two of those soldier silhouettes on roadsides and wonders if the deeper meaning of the words beside them, “Lest we forget”, could really be:
We should never forget the horrors of war – millions of women, men and children killed, traumatised, mutilated.
We should never forget that we, who elected the government, sent fellow countrymen and women to kill other human beings, forgetting that the act of killing also demeans and traumatises.
We should never forget that there are now so many ways of resolving conflict without using violence.
We should never forget to oppose militarism and the preparation for future wars.
The Peace Party works to build a radical new world based on compassion, mutual respect and on kindness to others.
