From an originally narrow pro-peace, anti-war base, The Peace Party now stands for concern for one another, for justice for all, for compassion for the whole of humanity, for respect for our environment, and we maintain that it is possible to reform our political system.
We recognise that full and satisfying lives can be lived under different cultural norms. Nevertheless we claim that all human beings, regardless of the values and ethos of their communities, have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
The Peace Party is an independent political party, and is not affiliated with any other group. While many of us are very happy to work for a common cause with people who agree with us on particular issues, our policies are entirely our own.
The Pacifist Campaign was established in 1996 by a small group of people in Guildford in order to ensure that there was a candidate in the next General Election committed totally and unequivocally to peace. Funds were very limited but some copies of The Pacifist leaflet were produced and delivered in the constituency in the months before the election. John Morris stood in 1997, and again in 2001, the pacifist share of the vote cast increasing by about 50%.
In 2003 the name was changed to "The Peace Party—Non-violence, Justice, Environment". In 2004, we contested the South East Region in the European Parliamentary Elections, achieving over twelve and a half thousand votes, and in 2005, we contested Horsham, Brighton Kemptown and Guildford in the General Election together with four county council seats, one in Dartford, Kent, one in Horsham, Sussex and two in Guildford.
In 2009, The Peace Party contested the Elections for the European Parliament on 4th June, 2009. It fielded a full slate of 10 candidates in the South East England Region. Election results may be found on the News and Views Page.
The Election Leaflet and details of the Peace Party candidates who stood may be downloaded from the Resources and Downloads Page.
The Peace Party also contested four County Council seats in the same area on the same day: Woking South (Julie Roxburgh), Guildford West (John Morris) Division in Surrey, Horsham Riverside (Jim Duggan)in West Sussex and Dartford Rural (Geoffrey Pay) in Kent.
Election Leaflets for these candidates may be downloaded from the Resources and Downloads page.
The Peace Party is organised and run by an executive committee which meets on a regular basis (see the Diary page). Members of the Committee are elected each year at an Annual General Meeting.
Please contact us if you would like to become a Committee Member, either attending meetings regularly or as a corresponding one.
Currently, our President is John Morris, Chair, Geoff Pay and Secretary, Kate Potter.
